An enterprise is a business entity that is the basis of an economic subsystem, in turn, the conditions for which are created by a supersystem at the macro and mega levels. First, at the state level, which is reflected in the regulatory and legal support for the activities of enterprises throughout the hierarchy: from parliament to local governments, the judiciary and the executive branch. All this creates certain conditions for the activities of business entities, starting from tax issues, ending with issues of investment attractiveness of the environment, security issues, staffing, the standard of living, which affects the demand for products/services produced by enterprises, the state of infrastructure, etc. An enterprise is an open economic system that exchanges with the external environment commodity and material values, information and energy. And therefore, the level of its systemic perfection is always influenced by the external environment, the procurement market, the sales market, the labor market, the financial and economic situation in the country or countries in which it operates, regulations and influences from the supersystem, etc. The article analyzes the dynamics of the number of enterprises in Ukraine for the period 2010-2023, as well as the results of their functioning. Enterprises are studied by size: large, medium, small and micro-enterprises. The study was based on data from the State Statistics Service. In particular, the study of the dynamics of deviations and growth rates by year in the number of employees, the volume of manufactured and sold products and net profit (loss). The analysis clearly indicates a decline in activity due to objective reasons if we talk about the period from 2022, the full-scale invasion of the russian federation and the ongoing war. The trend in the development of small and micro enterprises is clearly visible, although their net profit (loss) has been negativing since 2022, while large and medium-sized enterprises have made a profit in 2023, although the number of medium-sized enterprises is decreasing, while the number of small enterprises is increasing. A negative trend is also noted in the number of employees, while only micro enterprises increased by this criterion in 2023. The analysis conducted makes it possible to indirectly draw conclusions about the state of the external environment’s favorability for the activities of business entities and its impact on the level of systemic perfection of the enterprise as a whole, which in turn should encourage the systemic management of business entities to systematize their activities, introduce technologies aimed at increasing labor productivity and reducing the cost of products/services, and increase the efficiency and effectiveness of activities on the path of continuous improvement.
