The COVID-19 pandemic and the military aggression of the Russian Federation have necessitated a reconsideration of approaches to managing economic entities in all sectors of the national economy, as there has been a significant transformation in challenges and socio-economic conditions for doing business since 2020. In particular, the uncertainty of the external environment, along with the scale and intensity of the negative impact of risks and threats on the stable functioning of economic systems, has increased. The purpose of the study is to systematize scientific approaches, highlight the philosophical and ontological aspects of security, examine its historical transformations, and classify the impact of contemporary challenges on the evolution of its conceptual understanding. Throughout human history, the category of «security» has been one of the key values of existence, as humans striving to protect life, community, and environment is natural and decisive for social development. In this context, analyzing and systematizing philosophical-ontological approaches to understanding this category becomes especially relevant. It enables comprehension of security in the context of the interrelation between human beings, society, and nature, revealing its deep foundations and its existence in various forms. Within the worldview paradigm of antiquity, a clearly dichotomous approach to understanding the phenomenon of security can be traced, where its meaning is primarily disclosed through its opposite – danger. This approach demonstrates that the concept of «security» in its ontological essence is not self-sufficient and requires reflection through the prism of threats, risks, and challenges. The absence of danger not only signified a state of tranquility but also served as a key marker of safety. This confirms the appropriateness of interpreting the category of «security» not as an abstract condition but as a dynamic process of overcoming or preventing potential danger. Therefore, in our view, analyzing security through its antinomic essence—danger—is a necessary methodological prerequisite for a deeper understanding of the nature of security in both philosophical and managerial dimensions. The analysis of the categories «danger», «threat», and «risk» makes it possible to define their content, interconnection, and role in forming the security environment of socio-economic systems. In this context, detailing the types of dangers becomes essential, as it contributes to a deeper understanding of the sources of destabilizing influences on various spheres of social life. A special place among them belongs to the category of «economic security», which serves as a key component of the security system. It possesses its own structure and is divided into several subtypes depending on the object of protection and the nature of threats.

Keywords: security, philosophical and ontological aspects of security, simulacra of security.
