This article examines the evolutionary processes of the entertainment segment of Ukrainian television from the country’s independence to the present day, with a particular emphasis on the development of travel shows as a new genre and their role in shaping contemporary cultural discourse. The research is based on the analysis of a specific case study of the travel project «People Everywhere» (Ukraine channel, 2021), which reveals the specificity of modern entertainment content and its significance in forming cultural dialogue.

The study demonstrates the transformation from Soviet television standards to diverse contemporary content. The initial period of the 1990s was characterized by the adaptation of Western formats and the search for national identity. Programs such as «Field of Miracles» and «What? Where? When?” became the first steps towards interactive entertainment television. The 2000s brought a real boom in entertainment television with projects like «Dancing with the Stars», «Evening Quarter», and various reality shows that gradually conquered Ukrainian television space.

The research provides a consolidated rating assessment of contemporary entertainment content demonstrated by Ukrainian media. Two comprehensive tables are presented: the top Ukrainian entertainment shows (2023-2024) and the top Ukrainian travel shows. These tables systematize information about the most popular projects, allowing for the identification of current industry trends. The analysis reveals that entertainment programs not only maintain but also continuously increase viewer interest, creating favorable conditions for the development of new formats.

Special attention is paid to the development of travel shows, which have established a unique presence in the modern entertainment segment of Ukrainian television over recent years. This genre combines entertainment and educational functions, presenting viewers with different cultures and lifestyles through the prism of travel. The leader in this direction remains the «World Inside Out» project on the «1+1» channel, which has maintained the status of the most popular Ukrainian travel project for fourteen years.

The detailed analysis of the «People Everywhere» case study illustrates the complexity and resource intensity of creating modern travel shows. The project, officially announced on March 12, 2021, aimed to dispel stereotypes about life in other countries and show everything through the lens of ordinary people and their daily realities. The geography of filming covered Mexico, Brazil, Panama, the Dominican Republic, and other North American countries, demonstrating the project’s ambition to create international-level content.

The production process required significant resources and a professional approach. Filming took place in intensive mode, with morning departures at 7:30 AM and daily shoots lasting 12-15 hours. The COVID-19 pandemic conditions created additional difficulties, resulting in prolonged layovers and quarantine restrictions. The essence of the project consisted of meetings with residents at home and at work, learning about everyday life, prices, and mentality, with the primary goal of dispelling the saying «where we are not, there is good» and showing the advantages of life in Ukraine through comparative analysis.

The study demonstrates that modern travel shows actively utilize cutting-edge filming and editing technologies, enabling the creation of visually attractive, high-quality content. Integration with social media becomes an integral part of modern television production, as exemplified by the «People Everywhere» host actively sharing experiences and creating additional engagement with the audience.

The research concludes that the evolution of the entertainment segment of Ukrainian media demonstrates a gradual transition from simple entertainment formats to complex multimedia projects that combine entertainment, education, and cultural dialogue. The success of such projects depends on a professional approach to production, the authenticity of content, and the ability to adapt to modern media technologies and viewer demands. The future development of the entertainment segment of Ukrainian television is likely characterized by further integration of traditional television with digital platforms and an increasing role of cultural and educational content, resulting in unique formats capable of competing in the international media market.
