The article examines European practices of institutional support for the digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and identifies opportunities for their adaptation in Ukraine. The purpose of the study is to analyse modern European mechanisms for supporting SME digitalization and to substantiate the directions for their implementation under Ukrainian conditions. The study is based on theoretical generalization, systems analysis, comparative analysis, and a structural approach. The paper analyses the key instruments of institutional support for SME digital transformation in the European Union, including the SME Strategy for a Sustainable and Digital Europe, the Digital Europe Program, the European Digital Innovation Hubs, the Enterprise Europe Network, and the Single Digital Gateway. Attention is paid to the role of digital infrastructure, digital platforms, innovation ecosystems, and state support instruments in ensuring the digital modernization of the entrepreneurial sector. The study identifies the main institutional barriers to the adoption of European practices in Ukraine, including insufficient development of digital infrastructure, fragmented state policy, limited access to financial resources, and insufficient digital competencies among entrepreneurs and employees. It is determined that the effective adaptation of European practices requires a comprehensive approach aimed at improving institutional support mechanisms, expanding digital business services, strengthening financial support for SME digitalization, and integrating Ukrainian enterprises into the European digital space. The scientific novelty of the study lies in generalizing the main directions for adapting European mechanisms to support SME digital transformation to Ukrainian conditions. The practical significance of the results lies in the feasibility of using the proposed approaches to inform state policy for supporting digital entrepreneurship and the development of digital infrastructure. Prospects for further research lie in developing mechanisms to integrate Ukrainian SMEs into the European digital market and improving institutional instruments to support digital entrepreneurship.
