Abstract

The article identifies the main current trends in the development of rural areas of Ukraine: demographic losses in rural areas, the decline of social and industrial infrastructures, unemployment, increase in the number of rural people living below the poverty line; the difference between the concepts of «agricultural growth» and «rural development»; It noted that due to the financial crisis and the need to meet the requirements of the World Trade Organization, funding of agriculture in recent years due to the budget have been significantly reduced, which makes it impossible to use the potential of domestic agriculture; the necessity of evaluating contemporary trends in the development of rural areas of Ukraine as a threat to its economic and political security.
