The healthcare sector is a priority for achieving high indicators of citizens’ quality of life and, therefore, the country’s international competitiveness. In recent years, one can observe active reform of the healthcare sector and changes in the global system of economic relations, as well as processes that are gaining momentum and strengthening international cooperation, which are primarily related to financing, the development of the private sector of medical services, the growth of the level of competition in the market and the search for new ways to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the healthcare system. All these cardinal shifts and transformations initiate new challenges for healthcare institutions and their managers in terms of developing and improving management systems and applied practices, which, as a result, leads to the need for a comprehensive update of the methods and methods of managing the healthcare system. Modern trends in the development of the healthcare industry indicate the need to apply fundamentally new approaches to planning, organizing, and managing the activities of healthcare institutions based on finding the optimal ratio of resources available to them and potential opportunities. This, in turn, determines the need to apply the principles of strategic management since, on the one hand, they will allow you to form successful business models and, on the other hand, to properly implement them thanks to the strategy.
The change in the organizational and economic principles of the functioning of healthcare institutions and the improvement of the level of competition in the medical services market necessitates the use of new management methods and approaches, one of which is strategic management. The importance of strategic decisions in healthcare institutions is due to the need not only to activate such a management process, the result of which will be realistic and potentially practical actions, but also to include in the implementation of management decisions all persons involved in their implementation.
