The article presents arguments for the sustainable spatial development of the Ukrainian economy and ensuring food security in the conditions of the Russian Ukrainian war. The state’s approaches at the legislative level to the spatial organization of the economic system, regional development, and ensuring food security are investigated. The task of developing the agro-industrial complex in ensuring sustainable regional development, as a prerequisite for strengthening the food system, is defined in the study. The consequences of hostilities for the food potential and the scale of economic losses because of food losses in Ukraine are described in the article. The consequences mentioned reflect: a decrease in crops shown, increased land pollution, significant disparities by type of product and region in relation to the level of occupation of individual territories. Risk factors for the policy of forming and developing the food system in war conditions are summarized in this publication. These factors include constant destruction of granaries and port infrastructure in Ukraine; uncertainty about the possibility of harvesting crops and supplying them to the world food market; instability in the energy market, which is necessary to produce products; etc. Promoting sustainable spatial development of Ukraine’s economy in terms of strengthening the potential of its food system can be ensured by forming a conceptual mechanism. Sustainable development of the Ukrainian economy in the context of ensuring food security should take place in the context of the main directions of formation and implementation of state policy in the agriculture. These areas include shaping Ukraine’s agricultural policy based on common European principles; ensuring the sustainability of agriculture; regulating land forming the foundations for sustainable management of land and soil resources. The conclusions of this article are of practical importance in establishing strategic and operational goals of sustainable regional development, strengthening the food security of the country’s population in the conditions of post-war economic recovery in Ukraine.
